Labor Day Weekend, Baker College partnered with House of Dank (HOD) and showcased the talents of The Culinary Institute of Michigan (CIM) students at the Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats & Eats festival. The event marked a significant milestone for Baker College, with its students and programs taking center stage while contributing to the community.
At this year’s festival, award-winning CIM students created special food items, including Suppli Di Riso (Cheesy Rice Croquettes) in collaboration with Trattoria Da Luigi, and a custom “Summer Punch” cocktail served at the festival bar. A portion of the proceeds from these items benefited Open Hands Pantry, continuing a tradition that raised nearly $5,000 last year. The event provided CIM students with invaluable hands-on experience, building their skills and confidence as they endeavor to continue competing in culinary competitions.
The partnership with HOD was another highlight, as the cannabis company participated in Arts, Beats & Eats for the second consecutive year. “The recent announcement of this partnership is a perfect example of how we’ve expanded certificate programs in future-focused industries to create an educated talent pipeline,” said Kelley Suggs, Baker College Public Relations Manager. “By offering online certificate training in cannabis, and hands-on degree programs for culinary arts,, we’re ensuring students gain valuable skills that will set them apart in their careers and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”
Danielle Stewart, online cannabis certificate bearer and new HOD intern, shared her enthusiasm for the festival experience. “I had an amazing time. Everyone was super friendly, helpful, and informative. The atmosphere in the store has been just as fun as ABE. I’ve already seen and learned so much and am incredibly excited to learn and experience everything I can.”
The Culinary Institute of Michigan (CIM), a division of Baker College, is one of four US institutions to earn the “Recognition of Quality Culinary Education” designation from the World Association of Chefs’ Societies.
